AKMTTA Accuses Traffic Police of Bias at 9-Lad Parking Area

HEADLINES

The All Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association (AKMTTA) has alleged that certain traffic police personnel are engaging in unfair practices at the 9-Lad parking area near Vivanta Hotels. The association claims that some officers, in coordination with parking attendants and outstation drivers, are selectively targeting local Meghalaya-registered (ML) vehicles while allowing Assam-registered (AS) vehicles to park freely without any action.

AKMTTA has released video evidence showing that while ML vehicles are being clamped and forced to vacate, AS vehicles are allegedly allowed to remain without restrictions.

On March 4, 2025, the association formally lodged a complaint with the Superintendent of Police (Traffic), demanding immediate intervention. In response, the SP assured that a committee would be set up to investigate the matter.

AKMTTA leader Recaldinus Dohling stated that this issue of discrimination against local vehicles at 9-Lad has persisted for a long time, and it is time for authorities to take strict action.
