HANM President Lamphrang Kharbani has warned that the organisation will march to Parliament if the Government of India fails to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP), include the Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution and resolve the longstanding border dispute with Assam.
Speaking at a sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, on February 25, Kharbani expressed disappointment over the central government’s silence despite Meghalaya’s unified stance on these critical demands.
He criticized the state government for not actively pursuing these issues, despite passing resolutions in the Assembly. This, he said, has compelled HANM to take its protests to the national stage.
Kharbani further revealed that the organization had twice sought permission to stage protests at Jantar Mantar through legal means. However, if the Central government continues to ignore their demands, HANM will escalate its movement and march to Parliament, even without official clearance.
