In a shocking turn of events in the OC Blue Shillong Premier League 2024, mid-table Laitkor SC pulled off a stunning 2-0 victory over title contenders Rangdajied United FC in Match 70 at the SSA Stadium, Polo, today. Meanwhile, Langsning FC dismantled Sawmer SC 5-0, powered by a hat-trick from Dauruhipaia Pale.
The results did not alter the league standings, but Rangdajied’s path to the title is now extremely challenging. They must beat the top two teams, Mawlai SC and Shillong Lajong FC, and hope for additional upsets, a scenario that seems highly unlikely. At the bottom of the table, Sawmer SC remains at risk of relegation, sitting in seventh place with three teams below them having played two fewer matches. In contrast, Langsning and Laitkor have strengthened their positions, making their top-tier status all but secure.
Laitkor’s victory was sealed early, with Risuk Malngiang converting a 21st-minute penalty after Rangdajied goalkeeper Meshan Banjop Sumer brought down Wadskhem Marbaniang in the box. Just two minutes later, Samborwell Mynsong capitalized on defensive lapses to fire home Laitkor’s second goal. Rangdajied struggled throughout, failing to provide service to lead striker Owanijuh Pajuh, while the absence of key defenders Arlangky Nongsiej and Balamlynti Khongjee was keenly felt.
Later, in the second match, Langsning unleashed a second-half onslaught on Sawmer, netting four goals within 16 minutes. Dauruhipaia opened the scoring in the 48th minute, followed immediately by Daohipaia Rymbai (49′). Dauruhipaia added two more (51′, 61′) to complete his hat-trick, displaying his lethal finishing ability. Despite a missed penalty by Dajiedlang Wanshnong, Langsning sealed the rout with a late goal from substitute Lamgougin Khongsai (90′).
The OC Blue SPL continues tomorrow with a single fixture between Nangkiew Irat SC and Nongthymmai SC at 3 PM.
