Congress Warns Meghalaya Government Against Solar Ventures with Adani Group

HEADLINES

As Meghalaya prepares for significant investments in solar power, the Congress Party has cautioned the state government to avoid any partnerships with the Adani Group. Congress youth leader Manuel Badwar issued the warning, citing recent allegations against the Adani Group in the United States.

Badwar expressed concerns that electricity prices in Meghalaya are already high and urged the government to be vigilant in its dealings with solar power companies, especially Adani, a major player in the sector. “The State Government must ensure no trade occurs with the Adani Group,” he said.

Adding to the criticism, Sanjay Das, General Secretary of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), called for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation into allegations of bribery involving Adani. He questioned the selective enforcement of the law, alleging leniency toward Adani despite ₹2,000 crore allegations, while opposition leaders face arrest over comparatively smaller amounts.

“This selective enforcement is a disservice to the nation. If BJP admits that centrally-ruled Jammu and Kashmir and opposition-ruled states are implicated, isn’t it also admitting that Adani bribed officials? Why is there no accountability?” Das asked.

The Congress Party has demanded transparency and due diligence in Meghalaya’s solar energy plans, ensuring that public interests are safeguarded from potential controversies.
