Respect our Culture & Traditions; Political Dramas should not disrupt State’s peace: Ampareen

HEADLINES

Shillong: Health and Family Welfare Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh shared her personal opinion and called for mutual respect among ethnic groups, urging that each group should honour others’ traditions and beliefs just as they respect their own so India will remain a vibrant democracy.

Responding to a request by a Hindu group to march in support of declaring the cow as the “mother of India,” Ampareen said that Meghalaya has its own distinct culture and external influences should not impose on it.

She warned that actions or intentions that disturb the peace should not be tolerated, noting that there are laws in place to address such disruptions.

Ampareen further stated that Meghalaya is a peaceful state – who has its own culture and customs and any attempts to incite division or hatred should be prevented as these “political dramas” should not be allowed to upset the peace of the people of Meghalaya, she added.
