Shillong: The Minister incharge of Health and Family Welfare Ampareen Lyngdoh said that students who went to pursue MBBS through State government-quota must return to Meghalaya to serve the state after completing their studies.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Ampareen highlighted the shortage of specialist doctors in the state and stressed the importance of fulfilling the bond agreements tied to government-sponsored education.

She expressed concern over the trend of medical graduates not returning to the state after completing their studies and assured that the government will take action to ensure compliance with the agreements.

Additionally, Ampareen announced that the first batch of doctoral studies in Meghalaya is set to commence in 2025, as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen the state’s medical infrastructure.
