Mawkyrwat, September 3: The Union Minister of State for Culture & Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, conducted a visit to several tourist attractions in the South West Khasi Hills District, particularly in the Mawkyrwat region.
During his visit, the Minister explored key sites such as the Hot Spring at Jakrem, Synrang Mawrin in Mawten village, Mawkyrduk, Mawbynna (Tynrong) in Mawlangwir village, and the Mawranglang Viewpoint. He expressed great admiration for the natural beauty of the region, highlighting its scenic hills and picturesque rivers.
A brief meeting was held at Synrang Mawrin, where Dr. K.K. Nongsiej welcomed the Minister, with the presence of Deputy Commissioner Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, Mawkyrwat MLA M. Synrem, Joint Secretary of the Tourism Department I. Lawryniang, Block Development Officer L. Kharponriah, and District Tourism Officer, among others.
On this occasion, memorandums were also submitted by representatives from Mawten, Mawlangwir villages, and Sngap Syiem College, Mawkyrwat.
Following the site visits, a discussion was held at Circuit House regarding various schemes related to Culture & Tourism. The meeting included representatives from the DRDA, Block Development Officers from Mawkyrwat and Ranikor, the Fisheries Superintendent, the General Manager of DCIC, and the District Tourism Officer.
