Shillong: A 47-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by a 60-year-old companion during a drinking session inside a shed at Thangskoo village in East Jaintia Hills.
The accused, Abharam Sten (60), reportedly fled the scene after attacking Bilaius Diengngan (47) on Monday, leaving him to die on the spot.
According to police, Sten was arrested the following day after preliminary investigation revealed that the two men had been consuming alcohol together inside the shed when an argument broke out. The confrontation escalated into a physical fight, during which Sten is alleged to have stabbed Diengngan with a knife, causing grievous injuries that proved fatal.
Initially, police were unable to identify the victim, who was known locally only by a nickname. His identity was later confirmed after officers called a contact number found in a notebook inside the shed.
Diengngan was a resident of Mawkyllon, Riangdo in West Khasi Hills. His body was handed over to family members after a post-mortem examination at Khliehriat Civil Hospital.
Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
