The North Eastern Hills University Students Union (NEHUSU) and KSU NEHU Unit recently met with Cabinet Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh and other ministers, urging them to take intervene in the matter of removal of NEHU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Prabha Shukla, along with other ineffective officials.
This demand follows months of protests by NEHU students and faculty, who have raised concerns over the Vice Chancellor’s alleged mismanagement and its negative impact on the university’s administration.
During the meeting, NEHUSU leaders Sandy Sohtun and Toniho S Kharsati, along with KSU representatives Shibaitlang Rymbai and Kevin N Wanrap, highlighted their ongoing struggle. They noted that they had staged a hunger strike in November, demanding Prof. Shukla’s immediate removal. Although an inquiry committee was formed by the Ministry of Education, no significant action has been taken so far.
Both NEHUSU and KSU NEHU said that the continued leadership of Prof. Shukla has severely hindered the university’s operations, affecting both academics and administration.
