36 LP Schools of the Government without any teachers, informs Rymbui in the Assembly

Shillong, September 15: The Education Minister of Meghalaya, Lahkmen Rymbui today in the Assembly informed that there are 36 Government Lower Primary schools which have no teachers at all.

In response to the question presented by the MLA of the Opposition from Rangsakona, Zenith Sangma, the Minister said that the 36 schools do not have any teachers since most of the teachers have been transferred to other places while the rest have retired.

In presenting the additional question in the Assembly, Zenith Sangma expressed concern about the future of the students studying in these schools without any teachers, and also put forward a question on other alternatives opted by the Government.

Rymbui informed that the Department had directed the Sub-Divisional School Education Officer (SDSEO) to appoint teachers. He also informed that as a temporary solution the students from schools without any teachers have to go to nearby schools to keep with up with their studies.

The Minister also informed that the delay in appointing teachers in these schools is due to the order issued by the Meghalaya High Court to provide a roster before going ahead with any appointments and added that the Government has to follow regulations and laws to fill the vacant posts of teachers.

As per the statement of Rymbui in the Assembly, out of the 36 schools without any teachers, one is in East Khasi Hills District, one in West Khasi Hills District,one in Eastern West Khasi Hills District,one in West Jaiñtia Hills District,2 in East Jaiñtia Hills District,one in Ri-Bhoi District,10 in East Garo Hills District, one in South West Khasi Hills District, one in North Garo Hills District and 16 in South Garo Hills District.
