Shillong: East Shillong MLA M Ampareen Lyngdoh has expressed happiness over plans to redevelop the long-neglected building at Malki Market, saying the project will transform the area after decades of stagnation.
She said the old market building at Malki had remained abandoned for many years without any repair or improvement and had deteriorated into a damaged and unsafe structure. After being elected as the representative of the area, she prioritised the renovation and redevelopment of the market complex.
However, the project faced several hurdles, particularly the need to secure proper land documents to confirm ownership under the Dorbar Pyllun of Malki. With the required documentation now obtained, the project is ready to move forward.
According to the Detailed Project Report (DPR), the proposed new Malki Market complex is estimated to cost around ₹139 crore and is expected to significantly improve the infrastructure and appearance of the market area.
